Survival Rules in the AI Era: "Questioning Ability" is More Precious Than Answers

In the past, we always thought that whoever memorized the most and remembered the best was the top student. But with the popularization of generative AI, this evaluation standard is rapidly collapsing. Jack Ma once mentioned that in the AI era, letting children compete with machines in memory is a losing battle; the core competitiveness lies in "asking good questions." This statement applies not only to education but is also a highly precise reminder for every workplace professional.

Why has "questioning" become the currency of the new era?

The AI tools readily available to us today are essentially super databases with massive amounts of data. Whatever answer you want, it can generate it for you in seconds. This makes the "answer" itself extremely cheap. When information is no longer scarce, what becomes scarce is the "command that can precisely mobilize information."

This is very much like the "Prompt Engineer" we often hear about nowadays. Using ChatGPT, some people only get empty nonsense, while others can produce high-quality business proposals. The difference lies in the latter knowing how to break down problems and use logic to guide AI. This is the ability to "ask good questions" that Jack Ma talked about. People with this ability will not be replaced by AI; instead, they will be empowered by it.

Mindset upgrade from "spoon-feeding" to "guiding"

Recalling our past educational experiences, most of the time was spent memorizing standard answers. But in the real world, many thorny problems have no standard answers. For example, "How to get a new brand noticed within three months?" AI can give you a hundred strategies for this kind of problem, but which one is most suitable for the current market environment, budget scale, and brand tone requires human insight to judge.

The focus of future learning paths should be on "defining problems" and "verifying results." When children or we ourselves face an unknown field, the first step is not to rush for an answer, but to think first: What is the core of this problem? Have I missed any background conditions? If the answer given by AI looks perfect, how do I verify its authenticity? This process of critical thinking is the irreplaceable value of the human brain.

How to train this ability?

It is actually not difficult to practice this skill in daily life. When we encounter something we don't understand, try not to just ask "What," but ask more "Why" and "What if."

For example, if you want to understand blockchain, don't just ask AI to explain the definition. Try asking it: "If I am a bakery owner who knows nothing about technology, please explain blockchain to me using the operational logic of a bakery." When you know how to shift perspectives to ask questions, you will find that the depth of knowledge you gain is completely different.

This is an era of exploding computing power; machines are responsible for processing data and memory, while humans are responsible for direction and value. Learning to ask AI questions is actually practicing how to give commands to this world. By mastering the initiative in asking questions, you master the key to surfing freely in this era.
